As we enter the holidays, usually the music business shuts down from Thanksgiving to about mid January. Want to let people know you are still working on your music? Here is my idea for you this year. On Google look for “Public Domain Christmas Songs.” There will be a list of songs that you are allowed to cover without permission or paying royalties. Choose one and start rehearsing it. You don’t even have to record it, you can perform live on FacebookLive, Instagram or even Tiktok. You can run a track behind you or you can share the screen with someone when you are doing a FacebookLive so you can sing together or have one of you playing an instrument. Start sharing Christmas music right after Thanksgiving AND make sure you share the song on multiple social media sources.
Think about giving a positive uplifting song, share your holiday playlist or do a small LIVE social media event and have your fans donate to something Christmas-y like Toys for Tots or a Mission who hands out holiday dinner! To me, this is a great way to launch your 2021 music release plan.
Holidays exist to remind us what matters most in our lives and it can be a source for connecting with fans with something joyful! For the new year, map out some holidays on the calendar from anything like Earth Day, Mothers Day, Veterans day, or even fun days like “National Chocolate Day” or “Strawberry Sundae Day.” Check out NationalCalendarDay.com. You will find we Americans celebrate almost everything! Did you know that July 31 is National Avocado Day and that National Cheese Day in June 4th? You can just talk about your celebration, share a recipe or even write a song about the holiday. Really show your personality with your audience.
I have suggested Holiday music to many of my music friends and most of them got really excited to have something different to share with their audience. If you try the ‘Celebration Connection’ idea, make sure you email or share your songs with me and I will share it with my network.
