It has been over 6 months since COVID-19 entered all of our lives. I work with musicians that make most of their money from performing, so everything making us money just stopped! Actually, the entire entertainment industry and world just stopped! This is something most of us could never imagine.
Did you just roll up in your PJs for a few months, eat things you never would have before and eliminate all movement in your life? I know many people did that, but for me, having extra time allowed me to put my creative thoughts together and this has become my morning daily ritual.
My question: How can we continue to spread our music to the world and stay connected to our many fans?
I always say I am no social media queen, but I am learning. What I do understand is that social media is how we all connect with existing and new music fans. So, I started encouraging musicians to jump into at least one social media network and do some live performances. What could that do for your psyche? Well, you would have to research how to do that at home. You will need to research and learn things like: what type of special camera, backdrop and lighting you may need, PLUS performing again would require you to start rehearsing your songs. BINGO! That will fill your days at home with all things music! (THE BONUS? You are learning a few new skills!)
A musician I work with, who did little on social media, added a facebook live on Thursdays@3 and I convinced to him put a PayPal link at the top of the page. People donated over $400 that first day…he has been doing live streaming ever since and just finished his 30th facebook live concert. I convinced him to add a 2 song Tuesdays to advertise the Thursday event so he could connect with more of his fans; he also made sure to reacted to all the comments after the performance. This Thursday event has become an online connection for people, from across the world, who all know each other! PLUS he gets to share stories about the songs, his co-writers and about anything that is going on in everybody’s daily life. What does all this do? It helps your fans really get to know the REAL you and these performances will make you a better entertainer. Also, doing a weekly event keeps you encouraged and motivated and makes you feel connected to the world.
SO…..How about you look at your calendar and find a day and time to dedicate performing live for the world online? Give yourself a deadline to start and jump in with both feet! Isn’t it time to get back to creating a show for your fans? Making this commitment to perform once a week online will truly help bring your music to the world! Try it…what do you have to lose?
Please share with me what YOU have been doing with your free time!
